What is weight management?

Our relationship to food is so much more complex than what many mainstream health professionals would like us to believe…eat less, move more.

Our previous trauma histories, our current levels of stress, over learned habit patterns, binge eating tendencies, emotional eating, and even a lack of knowledge can make our relationship to food turn into a feared relationship.  With a background in Health Psychology, we understand the numerous aspects that may be contributing to our difficulty with weight management and this is an area that Psychology Calgary can certainly help with.

An Individualized Approach

Each individual has their own story with how they have reached the place they are at, and likely, tried every diet program along the way.  The missing link is often the underlying psychological factors that may be contributing to our altered relationship with food, and therefore our weight and quality of life.  We often experience a sense of shame, guilt, and even secrecy around our emotional eating tendencies, but the reality is that so many of us struggle with this.  There is no reason to feel ashamed!

We live in a society in which we are bombarded with overly processed, highly addictive foods which makes this process even more difficult.  We will provide you with an understanding of the physiology behind weight loss, the psychology of food addiction, and a safe place to share your journey.  Psychology Calgary approaches this topic with a completely non-judgemental stance and we are more than open to helping you change the trajectory of your relationship with food, no matter what stage of life you may be in.  With a background in nutrition, psychology, and neurofeedback, we have the tools to help you succeed.

How can you help?

This is not a 4 week program that you follow and lose weight, this is a deep exploration of your relationship to food and how we can best support you in changing that relationship in a way that makes you feel good, inside and out.  Weight loss is a great side effect, but the real success is measured in an increase in your quality of life and sense of control around your weight and food.

We have the ability to consult with top level physicians, dietitians, and exercise physiologists to ensure you are getting the best support out there.
